SYSTEM NEAR PUERTO RICO BEARS WATCHING

The system better known as 93L continues to exist down near the Greater Antilles. So far, upper level winds remain fairly unfavorable for any sort of rapid development, and the systems proximity to land is also working to disrupt any circulation trying to form down there.

Satellite imagery does not show a well-defined circulation center, nor does radar imagery from the Dominican Republic. Recon is flying in the system right now, and I would not be surprised if they don’t find a well-defined low level center.

The computer models are not doing much with this system in the short term. By mid week, the upper environment is expected to improve some. By that time, the system should be moving northward and away from the big islands down there. That is when the real questions start to get answered…like…does this system even develop? If it does, will it make a left turn into the Carolinas like the UKMET and Euro suggest? Or will it move further north and perhaps be the first named system to make a landfall in New England since Bob?

Obviously it is far too early to tell. So stay tuned.
