In addition to providing information and data from NWS sources, we have our own small but growing network of live weather data platforms complete with web cams. Right now, we have four permanent stations and two mobile stations. As of April, 2008, we have a weather stations in Bay St. Louis and Pascagoula, Mississippi. Both stations use the very best in weather data collection gear and are sited to the NOAA standard of at least 10 meters. We wrote our own software and designed our own interface to gather and display the data on the website where it is updated every 60 seconds. We also include a live web cam image that is updated several times per minute. In addition to the Mississippi weather stations, we have installed two other units using strictly Davis Instruments equipment. The School of the Future in New York City and the Children's Museum in Wilmington, NC both have live weather stations with web cams. We are proud to offer these free services to such fine educational locations and hope to add more over the years. For hurricane landfalls, we have a pair of 10-meter wind towers that we can take and set up just about anywhere. Using strong guy-wires and an impressive anchoring system designed for the U.S. Military, our towers should take quite a beating before failing (hey, you never say never). The towers each have RM Young anemometers mounted on them for wind and Davis Instruments for all other weather data. Of course, each tower has its own live web cam for remote monitoring of the site. Our aim is to place one tower directly in to the path of the eye of a hurricane with the other tower just outside of the eye- within the right-front quadrant. By doing this, we believe we can capture an excellent record of the wind speed and the air pressure- along with the gradient of each. You will be able to watch the data live via the links below.
